About Me
S.M. Abdul Hamid FCA is a distinguished Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Bangladesh (ICAB), having earned his chartered accountant (CA) qualification in 1994 from ICAB. Alongside his accounting expertise, he holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and has achieved outstanding results in the Diplomate Association Institute of Banking of Bangladesh (DAIBB).
Recognized as one of the most celebrated graduates of IIUC Dhaka in 2007, Mr. Hamid has been honored with the Excellence in Finance and Banking Award in 2012, reflecting his exemplary contributions to the field. With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Mr. Hamid has demonstrated his prowess in the banking sector, notably with IFIC Bank Ltd, the first-generation private sector bank in Bangladesh. As the first chartered accountant to join a private sector bank, he served as Deputy Managing Director & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) until 2017, accumulating 34 years of invaluable banking experience.
Additionally, he assumed leadership roles at Premier Bank Ltd and proposed Citizen Bank plc, further augmenting his total banking experience to 37 years. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Hamid has amassed a wealth of practical experience across various domains of banking, including General Banking, Credit Division, Loans & Advances, Foreign Exchange, Treasury, Finance & Accounts, Risk Management, Anti Money Laundering, and Compliance. He has spearheaded the implementation of high-quality accounting systems, taxation systems, and risk-based audit systems in accordance with Bangladesh Bank guidelines.
Mr. Hamid's expertise extends to the implementation of BASEL-III, ICCAP, IFRS, and IAS standards in the banking sector, enhancing operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. Mr. Hamid's professional repertoire also includes consulting, valuation, taxation, and auditing services for a diverse clientele comprising banks, financial institutions, and both national and international companies. He has introduced innovative risk-based audit systems, further fortifying the integrity and resilience of financial institutions.
Mr. Hamid's commitment to professional development is evident through his participation in numerous training programs and seminars, both locally and internationally. Notable among these are his international programs on Asset-Liability Management by National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) - Pune, India, Measuring & Managing Operational Risk, and Operational Risk Management by Marcus Evans, Mumbai, underscoring his dedication to staying abreast of industry best practices.
Prior to joining Islam Jahid & Co. Chartered Accountants as a partner, Mr. Hamid served as a partner at Ata Kahan & Co. Chartered Accountants for one year and Syful Shamsul Alam & Co., Chartered Accountants for two years, further enriching his professional experience and expertise. With his extensive knowledge, leadership acumen, and dedication to excellence, Mr. Hamid continues to be a driving force in the accounting and banking sectors of Bangladesh.
